Frequently Asked & Beautifully Answered
Here are some common questions.
I am new to massage, what should I expect?
First-time massages can feel a little nerve‑wracking — like a spa blind date — but breathe easy: we’ll make it pleasant.
Going in: Your therapist will take you to the room and explain what they’ll do, or you can ask them. Tell us any areas to avoid or focus on and point out sensitive spots. The therapist will step out so you can undress in privacy and get on the table. Most people remove everything but their underwear, but wear whatever makes you comfortable — seriously, no judgment (or surprise gasps).
Draping: You’ll be tucked in with a sheet and blanket, just like a cozy burrito. This keeps you warm and your privacy intact. If anything feels off, say so — we can’t give services undraped anyway, per Florida’s Massage Therapy Board, so the sheet stays.
Feedback: Speak up. Too hard, too soft, too chilly, too chatty? Tell us. Your comfort is our GPS.
Aftercare: Hydrate. Your circulation’s been doing overtime, so water helps flush out metabolic waste and reduces post‑massage soreness. If you’re unsure how you feel afterward, drop us a line at hello@ilovehaven.com — we’re happy to help.
What’s the difference between Swedish (relaxation) and Deep Tissue massage?
Think of Swedish as a cozy blanket for your nervous system—long, gliding strokes that soothe, boost skin circulation, and leave you floating out the door. Pressure is light to medium and it’s pretty standard—perfect when you want to unwind.
Deep Tissue is NOT a Swedish massage with more pressure. It’s more like a targeted repair crew. It zeroes in on stubborn knots and muscle tension (hello, shoulders and neck), using precise technique rather than just brute force. Therapists often skip slippery oils so they can actually grip and work deeper layers. It can feel intense—like progress being made—but pressure is always adjustable. Each session is tailored to what your body needs that day.
I’m new to facials — what should I expect?
Think of our facials as a mini-vacation for your face: relaxing, refreshing, and actually useful. Start by thinking about your skin goals — glow? calm redness? decongest pores? — then book accordingly. Our Custom Facial covers most needs: deep cleanse, exfoliation, and skin-loving TLC. Prefer something extra? Add-ons are available to level up your treatment. Have a specific concern or complication? Email us at hello@ilovehaven.com and we’ll tailor it.
Aftercare: For a basic facial, you can go about your day looking fabulous — no special rules. Some upgrades might ask you to skip certain products or tweak your routine for a few days. Got a big event? Tell your esthetician so we can time your glow perfectly.
What is a chemical peel?
Think of it as a little reboot for your face: acids or enzymes sweep away the tired surface cells to reveal smoother, brighter skin underneath. They tackle wrinkles, dullness, acne, dark spots, redness, and scars. Our peels mostly focus on the top layer (the epidermis), so you get glow without a starring role in a dramatic recovery scene — minimal downtime, minimal fuss. Want to level up your facial? Add a chemical peel to Haven’s Custom Facial.
Can I receive massage or skincare while pregnant?
Absolutely — glowing bump, meet glowing you. We offer prenatal massage and a pregnancy-safe skincare menu designed for comfort and safety. Please wait until at least 12 weeks gestation before booking so both baby and you are cozy and cared for — plus, we like our appointments to be all calm, no surprises.
How does manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) work?
Think of your lymphatic system as your body’s sanitation crew — but with better uniforms. It scoops up cellular junk, traffic-controls it through those trusty lymph nodes for a quick inspection, then sends the refuse on toward the kidneys. The useful bits get recycled back into your bloodstream; the unwanted stuff gets shown the exit. Gentle lymphatic drainage helps keep that crew moving so your body stays tidy and running smoothly.
Should I get MLD?
If your lymph system’s already zen, MLD is like giving it an espresso — it just gets to work faster and hustles a little harder to clear out cellular clutter. Bonus: it’s a pep talk for your immune system.
If you’re dealing with a medical condition, edema, or fresh-from-surgery puffiness, MLD is the reliable friend that gently deflates the swelling and helps you feel more like yourself again.
How many sessions will you need? It depends — like asking how many scoops of ice cream are necessary to fix a broken heart. Some people leave after one blissful visit; others become regulars (the good kind of commitment).
Not for the following conditions: please do not book this service if you have serious heart conditions, acute injury or infection, unexplained lumps or bumps, or renal failure. Got questions? Shoot us a note at hello@ilovehaven.com — we’ll help you figure it out.
Important financial fine print (aka the boring but necessary part): We do not accept insurance. Full payment is due at the time of service. We can provide a receipt with medical notes for you to submit to your insurance company for possible reimbursement, but we can’t promise they’ll pay — insurance is its own special kind of mystery. We strongly recommend calling your insurer before your appointment to check coverage.
How do gift cards work?
Digital gift cards are available on our site, and physical gift cards live happily in our lobby. They never expire, work for any service or product at Haven, and can be passed along as the perfect “treat yourself” or “treat someone else” surprise. Gift cards are nonrefundable, but easily transferable — sharing is caring.
I received a gift card, how do I book a service?
Use our dedicated booking page for gift card recipients on the main Menu page — look for the “Book with a Gift Card” link. You’ll be asked for a credit card at booking (standard practice), but you won’t be charged unless you outside the policy window (see next question).
What is your cancellation policy?
We understand that life happens, and appointments need to be cancelled or rescheduled. We also want you to understand that repeated cancellations and no-shows mean loss of income for us. We ask that you let us know ASAP if you can't make your appointment with us. Otherwise…
Cancellations less than 6 hours before your session, and no calls/no shows will result in a forfeit of your deposit (50% of the service cost); we will either retain the deposit, or charge the deposit to your gift voucher if applicable.
Perpetual cancellations may be subjected to a 50% fee as well as limited scheduling availability.
Arrivals more than 15 minutes past your appointment time may result in shortened service time.
Arrivals more than 20 minutes past your appointment time may result in cancellation of your service and forfeit of your deposit.
